About the role
Healthbridge is building the infrastructure that enables healthcare organizations to securely exchange data, collaborate more effectively, and deliver better outcomes.
As a Data Engineer, you will help build and scale the data foundation behind our healthcare interoperability platform. You will design, develop, and maintain the pipelines, integrations, and systems that enable reliable exchange of healthcare data across organizations.
You will work closely with engineering, product, and healthcare stakeholders to solve complex data challenges involving clinical, operational, and administrative data while ensuring security, reliability, and scalability.
What You’ll Do
• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that ingest, transform, and deliver healthcare data from diverse source systems.
• Build and maintain data infrastructure supporting healthcare interoperability workflows, including integrations with electronic health record (EHR) systems and healthcare data platforms.
• Develop reliable data models and storage architectures that support product capabilities, operational workflows, and analytics.
• Partner with engineering, product, and healthcare stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Implement data quality frameworks, validation processes, monitoring, and observability practices to ensure accuracy and reliability.
• Work with healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR to support secure exchange of clinical and administrative data.
• Contribute to architecture decisions involving scalability, security, reliability, and performance.
• Improve engineering processes through automation, testing, infrastructure-as-code practices, and CI/CD workflows.
• Participate in technical design discussions, code reviews, and cross-functional planning.
What We’re Looking For
Experience
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering or a closely related engineering role.
• Experience designing and operating production-grade data pipelines and data platforms.
• Experience working with healthcare data, healthcare technology systems, or other regulated data environments.
• Experience integrating with healthcare systems, APIs, or interoperability standards.
• Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience owning complex technical projects from design through production deployment.
Knowledge
• Strong understanding of data engineering fundamentals, including data modeling, warehousing, pipeline architecture, and data quality.
• Proficiency with SQL and Python.
• Experience with distributed data processing frameworks and workflow orchestration tools.
• Familiarity with healthcare data standards such as HL7, FHIR, ICD-10, or similar healthcare data models.
• Understanding of security, privacy, and compliance considerations when working with sensitive healthcare data.
Abilities
• Ability to independently drive technical initiatives from requirements gathering through implementation.
• Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and make pragmatic engineering decisions.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex data issues and communicate solutions clearly across technical and non-technical teams.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-moving startup environment with ownership and ambiguity.
Preferred Skills
• Experience with analytics engineering tools such as dbt.
• Experience building real-time or event-driven data pipelines.
• Experience building healthcare interoperability platforms or EHR integrations.
• Familiarity with HIPAA and healthcare security best practices.
• Experience working in early-stage or high-growth technology environments.
What We Offer
• Open PTO: Take the time you need to recharge and maintain balance.
• Health benefits: Medical, dental, and vision coverage.
• Equity ownership: Opportunity to participate in Healthbridge’s long-term success.
• Professional development: Support for continued learning and career growth.
• Team connection: Periodic in-person gatherings to collaborate and build relationships.
